Upcoming Events/Outings
The Vanguard Chapter is excited to announce the return of in-person fly tying sessions and general membership meetings. The fly tying sessions will be held the third Tuesday of the month beginning in September. The sessions will be held at Dinosaur Hill Nature Center (333N. Vanguard Chapter membership meetings will be held in-person at Dinosaur Hill on the second Thursday of each month throughout the fall and winter. Meetings begin at 7:30pm and provide attendees an opportunity to hear about happenings within the chapter as well as around the state which impact TU’s mission of preserving and protecting coldwater fisheries. Each meeting will have a guest speaker and I am pleased to announce the following schedule for this meeting season:
December 10th – (Wednesday at 7 pm) Holiday Social with Clinton Valley Chapter at Camp Ticonderoga in Troy. Keep an eye on your emails or Facebook for additional information and an on-line sign up. Space is limited for this event.
2025 Winter Events:
January 9th – Zoom meeting with Tim Flagler on “What Trout Like to Eat & Flies to Feed Them”
One of Tim Flagler’s most popular topics, this video-based presentation includes incredible underwater footage of a variety of aquatic insects, bait fish & crustaceans that trout eat in order to survive. In addition, Tim will share the fly patterns we use to best imitate the variety of bugs discussed. Instructions on how to tie the patterns shared in this presentation can be found on Tim’s YouTube channel.
February 11th – (Tuesday at 7 pm) Joint meeting with Clinton Valley TU at Camp Ticonderoga in Troy. The guest speaker is a representative from the Anglers of the Au Sable discussing their habitat improvement work on the Au Sable River. Come early if you want to have dinner and socialize before the meeting.
March 8th and 9th – Midwest Fly Fishing Expo. Members needed to man our booth.
March 13th – Vanguard Chapter Annual Meeting at Dinosaur Hill. Election of Board Members & Committee Chairs. We are always looking for new leaders with new ideas.
