Paint Creek Habitat Restoration Project - 2019 Electro-Shocking Sampling
Fish Sampling Procedure
- Electro shocking fish over about 1000 feet of the stream using 2 probes.
- Capturing fish with nets.
- Clipping tail fin.
- Measuring and recording length & species.
- Releasing fish; and thereafter
- Repeating entire process one hour later recording the same data but noting new fish versus fish with clipped fins.
2019 July Fish Sampling Highlights
- A total of 68 brown trout were caught.
- Average length of the brown trout was 8.3”.
- (4) 14” brown trout were caught.
- (6) rainbow trout were caught.
- Several 2” to 3” trout were caught indicating natural reproduction.
- Brown trout population is estimated to be 120 per acre or 460 per mile.
